Vivo, Oppo to raise Prices amid Rising costs

If you are planning to buy a new smartphone, it might be better to act soon.

In the coming months, smartphones could become more expensive as companies prepare to increase prices.

Major Chinese brands like Vivo and Oppo are reportedly planning to raise the prices of their phones.

The main reason behind this move is the sharp rise in the cost of important components, especially memory chips.

Why Are Smartphone Prices Increasing?

The biggest reason for this price hike is the rising cost of memory and storage chips used in smartphones.

Chips like DRAM and NAND have become much more expensive due to high demand.

This demand is being driven by the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI).

As more companies invest in AI technology, the supply of these chips has become limited, pushing prices higher.

Industry experts say that memory chip prices have increased by more than 80% compared to last year.

Because of this, smartphone companies are now under pressure and may pass this cost on to customers.

Which Phones Will Be Affected?

Reports suggest that Oppo may start increasing prices from March 16.

The biggest impact is expected on mid-range and budget smartphones, especially models from its A and K series.

But it’s not just Oppo. Other brands like Vivo and Honor are also considering similar price hikes.

If all these companies increase prices together, it could become the biggest price jump in the smartphone industry in the last five years.

More Reasons Behind the Price Hike

Apart from memory chips, other costs are also rising. Expenses related to metals, energy, and manufacturing have gone up.

On top of that, global conflicts are affecting supply chains, making production even more expensive.

Experts believe this trend will not stay limited to China. If chip prices keep rising, smartphones could become costlier across the world.

What This Means for Buyers

For buyers, this could mean spending more money on a new phone, especially in the budget and mid-range segments.

Many users may choose to keep using their current phones for a longer time instead of upgrading.

If this trend continues, 2026 could bring a new phase where smartphones steadily become more expensive.
