Central Government employees may soon get a major upgrade in their salary accounts.

The Department of Financial Services has asked Public Sector Banks to offer a complete Salary Account Package that combines banking, insurance, and card benefits in one place.

This move is aimed at improving financial security and making everyday banking easier for employees.

What is SBI’s CGSP Salary Account?

The State Bank of India (SBI) offers a special account called the Central Government Salary Package (CGSP).

It is designed for employees of Central Government ministries, departments, and institutions like Reserve Bank of India and NABARD.

This is different from the Corporate Salary Package (CSP), which is meant for employees in private companies and PSUs.

Banking Benefits You Should Know

One of the biggest advantages of CGSP is its zero-balance feature.

You don’t need to maintain any minimum amount in your account.

Other key benefits include:

Free 25 cheque leaves every month

No charges on RTGS and NEFT transfers

Free demand drafts if paid through salary account

Free passbook updates, even at non-home branches

Employees earning above Rs 50,000 can also get up to 50% discount on locker rent.

Extra Benefits for Your Family

SBI also offers the Rishtey Family Savings Account for employees earning above Rs 25,000.

This allows family members like spouse, parents, children, and siblings to open linked accounts with benefits such as:

Zero balance accounts

Free debit cards

Free online transfers

Accidental insurance cover up to Rs 5 lakh per member

These benefits continue as long as the main salary account is active.

Insurance Cover for Added Security

The CGSP account comes with strong insurance coverage (for most employees):

Personal accident cover up to Rs 1 crore

Air accident cover up to Rs 1.6 crore

Disability cover up to Rs 1 crore

Group life insurance of Rs 10 lakh

This makes it not just a bank account, but also a financial safety net.

Debit Cards Based on Your Salary

SBI offers different debit cards depending on your monthly salary:

Rs 10,000–25,000: Silver card

Rs 25,001–50,000: Gold card

Rs 50,001–1 lakh: Diamond card

Above Rs 1 lakh: Platinum/Rhodium cards

All cards come with zero annual charges and free ATM usage within SBI networks.

Loans and Credit Card Benefits

CGSP customers also get special offers on loans:

Lower interest rates on personal and home loans

No processing fee on car loans

SBI credit cards are also available with first-year free membership and added lifestyle perks like airport lounge access.

Insurance Plans You Can Choose

Apart from free coverage, employees can also buy extra insurance:

Term life insurance starting from Rs 245 per lakh

Health insurance plans starting around Rs 1,983

Super top-up plans for higher coverage at low cost

These plans help increase financial protection at affordable rates.

Special Benefits for Pensioners

Even retired employees are covered. Pensioners below 70 years can get:

Zero balance account

Free debit card

No SMS charges

Accident insurance cover up to Rs 30 lakh

Final Takeaway

The CGSP salary account by State Bank of India is more than just a regular bank account.

It combines banking, insurance, and lifestyle benefits into one package.

For Central Government employees, this can mean better savings, added security, and a more convenient financial experience.
