The Rajasthan government’s Department of Local Self-Government (DLB) has introduced new rules that ban new commercial activities in residential buildings.
Under the new regulations, starting a new business from a residential property will be considered illegal unless the required approvals and licenses are obtained.
No New Licenses for Businesses in Residential Buildings
The government has clearly stated that new licenses will not be issued for commercial activities in residential properties.
This means homeowners will no longer be able to convert part of their house into a shop, office, or other business establishment.
However, there is some relief for existing business owners. Those who received licenses in 2017 or earlier can continue operating
and renew their licenses as usual. Businesses operating without valid licenses may face government action.
Starting a Business from Home May Lead to Problems
People planning to start a new business from home must now follow commercial regulations. This includes paying applicable commercial taxes and operating from a legally approved commercial property.
Running a business without the required commercial license or land-use conversion could result in penalties and other legal issues.
Which Businesses Will Be Affected?
The new rules are expected to affect many small businesses commonly run from homes.
These include:
Grocery stores
Dairy shops
General stores
Beauty parlors
Boutiques
Sewing and tailoring centers
Men’s salons
Coaching centers
Tuition classes
Computer training centers
In addition, offices and consultancy services will not be allowed to operate from residential properties without proper commercial approval.
