Getting a PAN card is about to become a bit more detailed.
The Income Tax Department has introduced new rules that will come into effect from April 1, 2026.
These changes aim to make the verification process stricter and more accurate.
Right now, applying for a PAN card is simple. But after the deadline, applicants will need to follow a more structured process.
If you’re planning to apply, you can still use the old system until March 31, 2026.
Aadhaar Alone Will No Longer Be Enough
One of the biggest changes is related to the use of the Aadhaar card.
Until now, Aadhaar was enough to prove your identity, address, and date of birth.
But from April 1, 2026, that will no longer work on its own.
Applicants will now need to submit extra documents to confirm their date of birth.
These can include:
Birth certificate
Voter ID
10th mark sheet
Passport
Driving license
This change is meant to reduce errors and make records more reliable.
New PAN Application Forms Introduced
The Income Tax Department is also changing the application forms.
Earlier, there was one common form for everyone. Now, different forms will be used for different categories:
Form 93 – Indian citizens
Form 94 – Indian companies and entities
Form 95 – Foreign citizens
Form 96 – Foreign entities
This step will help keep data more organized and make tax processes smoother in the future.
What About Existing Applications?
If you’ve already applied for a PAN card before April 1, 2026, there’s no need to worry.
Any application submitted before the deadline will remain valid, even if it is still under process.
You won’t have to fill out a new form or submit extra documents.
However, all applications made on or after April 1, 2026, will strictly follow the new rules.
