The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a major update that will make it easier for employees to find and recover their old PF accounts.
Many employees who worked before the Universal Account Number (UAN) system was introduced still have old PF accounts that are not linked to their current UAN.
This often creates problems while transferring PF balances, filing withdrawal claims, or settling claims.
With the launch of the new EPFO 2.01 platform, these issues are expected to become much easier to resolve.
EPFO 2.01 Platform Brings Complete Service History
EPFO has upgraded its Unified Member Portal by adding a new Service History feature.
This feature allows members to view their complete employment history in one place.
Employees can also identify old or unlinked PF accounts that may have been left behind after changing jobs.
The new platform uses a centralized database, making it easier for employees to access their PF records online without visiting an EPFO office.
The update is especially useful for people who changed jobs before the UAN system became mandatory.
Why Do Employees Have Multiple PF Accounts?
Before the Universal Account Number (UAN) was introduced, every employer issued a separate PF Member ID to an employee.
As a result, whenever someone switched jobs, they received a new Member ID.
Over the years, many employees ended up with multiple PF accounts linked to different employers.
To solve this problem, EPFO introduced the UAN system.
Now, employees have only one UAN throughout their career, while every new employer simply links a new Member ID to the same UAN.
Some Employees May Still Face Issues
Although the new feature will help many members, some old PF accounts may still not appear in the Service History.
This usually happens because of incorrect personal details in older records, such as:
Wrong name
Incorrect date of birth
Father’s or mother’s name mismatch
Errors in the old Member ID
If your old PF account is still missing, you should contact your previous employer. Share your current Member ID and request them to verify and update your records so that the old account can be linked correctly.
What Employees Should Do Now
Employees should log in to the EPFO Unified Member Portal and check their Service History.
If you notice any missing or unlinked PF accounts, start the correction process as soon as possible.
Keeping all your PF accounts linked to your UAN will make future PF transfers, withdrawals, and claim settlements much smoother.
