Did you know that a PAN card can also be made for children, just like Aadhaar? Many parents are not aware of this, but it can be very useful.
If you want to invest in mutual funds, stocks, or fixed deposits in your child’s name, a PAN card is required.
It is also helpful for schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi and for claiming scholarships.
The good part is that you can apply for your child’s PAN card from home using your phone.
The fee is just ₹107, and the entire process can be completed online.
Documents Required for Child PAN Card
Before applying, keep all documents ready in PDF or JPEG format on your phone.
This will make the process smooth and quick.
You will need:
Child’s Birth Certificate (proof of age)
Child’s Aadhaar Card (mandatory for online application)
Parent’s Aadhaar Card (for identity and address proof)
Parent’s Signature (mother or father will sign on behalf of the child)
Two passport-size photos of the child
One important thing to note is that the child’s photo is not printed on the PAN card initially.
It gets updated after the child turns 18.
How to Apply Online from Home
You can easily apply for a child’s PAN card online through the NSDL website Just follow these simple steps:
First, visit the official NSDL website and click on “Apply Online”.
Select “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)” and choose “Individual” as the category.
Fill in your child’s details like name, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number.
After this, you will get a Token Number. Keep it safe.
While filling the form, select “Yes” when asked if the applicant is a minor.
Then enter the details of the parent as the representative.
Upload all required documents such as the birth certificate and Aadhaar cards.
Pay the application fee of ₹107 using net banking or debit card.
Complete the e-KYC process using Aadhaar OTP as the parent or guardian.
Finally, download and save the receipt for future reference.
Offline Process (If Needed)
If you choose the offline option while filling the form, you will need to send documents physically.
Take a printout of the application form, paste the child’s photo, and sign it as a parent.
Attach photocopies of all required documents like Aadhaar and birth certificate.
Then send the documents via speed post to the NSDL or UTIITSL office in Pune or Mumbai.
However, most people prefer the online method today, as it is faster and the PAN card is delivered to your home within a few days.
Important Things to Remember
A child’s PAN card does not have their photo or signature. Instead, it carries the parent’s signature.
Once the child turns 18, the PAN card needs to be updated.
After that, the child’s photo and signature will be printed on the card.
