According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, bank branches will be closed in Tripura on Wednesday, August 19.

However, this is not a nationwide bank holiday. Branches in most other states will continue to operate normally.

Why Are Banks Closed in Tripura on August 19?

Banks in Tripura will remain closed on August 19 to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.

He was born on August 19, 1908, and is widely remembered as one of the key figures behind the development of modern Tripura.

During his reign, several steps were taken to promote education and infrastructure in the state.

He was also associated with the development of Agartala Airport and worked on measures to protect the rights and land of tribal communities.

Because of his contribution, his birth anniversary is observed every year in Tripura.

Both public and private sector bank branches in the state will remain closed.

Will Banks Be Open in Other States?

Yes. The August 19 holiday is limited to Tripura.

Bank branches in states such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are expected to remain open as usual.

Customers in other states should therefore be able to carry out their regular branch-related banking work.

However, digital banking services such as UPI, mobile banking and internet banking can generally continue to be used even when physical branches are closed, subject to service availability.

Bank Holidays Coming Up in August

August has several bank holidays because of weekends and regional festivals. Here are some important dates:

August 22, Saturday

August 25, Tuesday

Bank branches will be closed in some cities, including Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada, for regional festivals and Milad-un-Nabi (Eid-e-Milad).

August 26, Wednesday

The affected locations include cities and regions such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Srinagar, Kanpur, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, New Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, among others.

August 28, Friday
