People using CNG in Mumbai and nearby areas will now have to pay more.
Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased CNG prices, taking the rate to ₹86 per kilogram in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Andheri, Kurla, and surrounding regions.
Along with CNG, the price of piped natural gas (PNG) used for cooking has also been increased by 52 paise per unit.
Second Price Hike in a Short Period
This is the second recent increase in CNG prices by MGL. Earlier, on May 14, the company had raised CNG prices by ₹2 per kilogram.
The latest increase means consumers will have to spend more on both vehicle fuel and household cooking gas. The PNG price hike is expected to affect around 3.1 million households that use piped gas connections.
Why Have CNG and PNG Prices Increased?
According to a company official quoted in media reports, rising global tensions have affected the gas supply chain, forcing the company to buy gas from more expensive sources.
The official also said that increasing crude oil prices and the weakening value of the Indian rupee have made gas purchases costlier. As a result, MGL has raised CNG prices by ₹2 per kilogram and PNG prices by 52 paise per unit.
Delhi-NCR Also Saw Recent CNG Price Hikes
CNG users in Delhi-NCR have also faced multiple price increases recently. Last week, CNG prices were raised in the region for the fourth time since May 15.
According to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the current CNG prices are:
Delhi: ₹83.09 per kg
Noida: ₹91.70 per kg
Ghaziabad: ₹91.58 per kg
Meerut: ₹91.58 per kg
Kanpur: ₹94.42 per kg
Hamirpur: ₹94.42 per kg
Ajmer: ₹92.44 per kg
Petrol and Diesel Prices Remain Unchanged
While CNG prices are rising, petrol and diesel rates remained unchanged on Saturday. Oil marketing companies kept fuel prices stable at previous levels.
However, petrol and diesel prices have already been increased four times this month. Due to these hikes, petrol prices have crossed ₹110 per litre in several cities across the country.
