Following the formation of the BJP government in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari chaired the first cabinet meeting and announced six major decisions.
These included implementing the Ayushman Bharat scheme, restarting recruitment processes, and speeding up border fencing work for the BSF.
The government also thanked voters and the Election Commission for conducting what it described as a peaceful and successful election in the state.
Government Thanks Voters and Election Commission
During the meeting, the new Bengal cabinet expressed gratitude to the people of the state and the Election Commission of India for managing the elections smoothly.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari praised the work of the Election Commission and said the election process was carried out successfully without violence.
Tribute Paid to 321 BJP Workers
The Chief Minister said the government paid tribute to 321 BJP workers who allegedly lost their lives during the political struggle leading up to the formation of the new government.
Adhikari said the state government would ensure justice for the families of those workers and added that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
BSF to Get Land for Border Fencing
The Bengal government has also started the process of providing land to the Border Security Force for border fencing work.
According to the Chief Minister, the decision was taken keeping national security and demographic changes in border areas in mind. The government aims to complete the land allotment process within 45 days.
Ayushman Bharat to Be Implemented
One of the BJP’s key election promises was the implementation of Ayushman Bharat in West Bengal. The government has now officially approved the decision.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said all central government schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will now be implemented in the state.
Bureaucrat Training and BNS Implementation Approved
The government has also approved the restart of central training and deployment programs for bureaucrats, which were reportedly stopped during the tenure of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In another major step, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has now come into force in the state. All new criminal cases will be registered under the new law from now onward.
Recruitment Process to Restart
The Chief Minister admitted that major government recruitments had remained stalled in the state since 2015.
He announced that a fresh recruitment process would begin soon, fulfilling another major election promise made by the BJP.
After the cabinet meeting, Adhikari said these decisions would shape the future of a “new Bengal,” while opposition parties are yet to give their reaction.
