Aadhaar cards are used everywhere today and are often considered essential for many services. However, if you live in Uttar Pradesh, this update is very important.
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that Aadhaar cards will no longer be accepted as birth certificates or as proof of date of birth.
This decision came after the state’s Planning Department clarified that Aadhaar cards do not contain any officially certified birth details. Therefore, they cannot be used as a valid document to confirm a person’s birth information.
In an official order, Amit Singh Bansal, Special Secretary of the Planning Department, instructed all state departments to stop accepting Aadhaar cards for any kind of birth verification.
The notice clearly states that Aadhaar is mainly a proof of identity and address, not a document that records birth data.
Maharashtra Issues a Similar Warning
The Maharashtra government has also given a similar directive. It stated that delayed birth and death certificates issued after August 11, 2023, based on Aadhaar cards, should be withdrawn.
Maharashtra further added that delayed birth certificates issued only on the basis of an Aadhaar card—without school certificates or any proof of the date or place of birth—will also be reviewed.
The Uttar Pradesh government referred to letter number 16013/4/2020-RO-LKO/5416, dated 31.10.2025, issued by the Deputy Director of the UIDAI Regional Office in Lucknow, while making this announcement.
Linked to Illegal Immigration Checks in Uttar Pradesh
This move is part of Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to identify illegal immigrants and strengthen border security.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently instructed district administrations to set up temporary detention centers, focusing on foreign nationals living illegally in the state.
