People of all ages, from children to the elderly, enjoy cashews. Plus, the demand for cashews remains strong from villages to cities.

Over the past few years, farming practices have shifted, with many farmers moving away from traditional crops to focus on more profitable cash crops, such as cashew cultivation.

The Benefits of Cashew Cultivation

Cashews are widely consumed as dry fruits, and they come from a tree that can grow up to 14-15 meters tall or even more. Cashew trees start bearing fruit in just 3 years.

Interestingly, the cashew plant’s peel is also valuable, as it is used to make paints and lubricants.

Cashew farming is highly beneficial, as the trees thrive in hot temperatures ranging from 20 to 35 degrees Celsius. It can grow in any type of soil, but red sandy loam soil is the most ideal for cashew cultivation.

Cashew Farming in India

India is one of the top producers of cashews, accounting for 25% of the global production.

Major cashew-growing states in India include Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal. Recently, cultivation has also been expanding into parts of Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

How Much Can You Earn from Cashew Farming?

Cashew trees continue to bear fruit for many years once planted. There are initial costs involved in planting the trees, but they can be highly profitable in the long run.

You can plant up to 500 cashew trees in one hectare of land. On average, each tree yields about 20 kg of cashews, so one hectare can produce up to 10 tons of cashews.

After harvesting, the processing cost is the next step. Cashews can be sold for around Rs 1200 per kg.

With a large number of trees, you could potentially make a significant profit—becoming a lakhpati or even a crorepati in the process.

By choosing cashew farming, you’re investing in a business with strong and consistent demand, and the opportunity for substantial earnings.
