The Government of India’s ration schemes are very important for helping poor and needy people in the country. Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), millions of families get subsidized grains.
However, from January 1, 2025, some changes will be made in the quantity and rules of grains provided through ration cards. These changes aim to make the ration system more effective and transparent.
New Quantity of Grains for Ration Card Holders
Starting January 1, 2025, the amount of wheat and rice given through ration cards will change. Previously, ration card holders received 3 kg of rice and 2 kg of wheat in one unit.
Under the new rules, ration card holders will now get 2.5 kg of rice and 2 kg of wheat. The amount of rice is reduced by 0.5 kg, while the wheat amount is unchanged.
For Antyodaya ration card holders, there is a major change. They used to get 14 kg of wheat and 21 kg of rice. Under the new rules, they will receive 18 kg of rice and 17 kg of wheat. However, the total quantity will still be 35 kg.
These changes are part of the government’s plan to improve food security and nutrition.
e-KYC Requirement for Ration Card Holders
The government has made the e-KYC process mandatory for all ration card holders. The last date to complete this process is December 1, 2024.
If a person does not complete the e-KYC process by this date, their ration card will be canceled. This means they will no longer receive free or subsidized grains.
This step is taken to ensure that only truly needy people benefit from the ration scheme.
How to Complete the e-KYC Process
Ration card holders can complete the e-KYC process in two ways: online or offline.
Online Method: Ration card holders can complete the e-KYC process on the official website of the Food Department using their Aadhaar card details. This method is easy and saves time.
Offline Method: If online completion is not possible, ration card holders can visit the nearest ration dealer or Common Service Centre (CSC) and submit their Aadhaar card and other required documents.
