This business can be started anywhere—whether in a village, town, or metro city—with no risk of loss. The business we’re talking about is banana paper manufacturing.

According to the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), starting a banana paper manufacturing unit can be a profitable venture.

What is Banana Paper?

Banana paper is a type of paper made from the bark or fibers of the banana plant. It has several advantages over traditional paper, such as lower density, greater strength, higher disposability, and superior tensile strength.

These unique properties are due to the cellular composition of the banana fibers, which make the paper more durable and eco-friendly.

Cost of Starting a Banana Paper Manufacturing Unit

The initial investment to set up this business is Rs 16.47 lakh, as per the KVIC report. However, you won’t need to invest the full amount from your own pocket.

You will need to invest only Rs 1.65 lakh upfront, and the rest can be financed through loans. A term loan of Rs 11.93 lakh can be obtained, and Rs 2.9 lakh will be required for working capital.

Financing Options for the Business

You can also opt for a loan under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) to start this business.

This scheme offers loans up to Rs 10 lakh to support the establishment or expansion of small enterprises in rural areas, making it easier to fund your banana paper manufacturing unit.

Profit Potential in Banana Paper Manufacturing

This business offers good profit potential. In the first year, you could earn a profit of about Rs 5.03 lakh.

In the second year, the profit could increase to Rs 6.01 lakh, and by the third year, it might reach Rs 6.86 lakh. After that, the profits are expected to grow rapidly.

Requirements for Starting the Business

To start this business, you will need to complete certain legal and regulatory formalities, including GST registration, MSME Udyam online registration, BIS certification,

and obtaining an NOC from the Pollution Department. These steps will help you set up a legally compliant and successful banana paper manufacturing unit.
