Punjab 8% DA hike will give higher Dearness Allowance to state government employees and pensioners from October, with the increase taking the DA rate to 50 per cent.
The Punjab government announced the decision on September 18 after a meeting between Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and representatives of employee and pensioner organisations.
The announcement brought an end to the prolonged standoff between the government and employees over pending DA demands.
Punjab 8% DA Hike: What Changes
The total 8 per cent increase will be released in two instalments of 4 per cent each.
The enhanced amount will be reflected in the salary payable from October, according to the announcement.
The decision covers Punjab government employees as well as pensioners.
The move is expected to provide additional financial support to employees, retirees and their families ahead of the festive season.
The announcement followed weeks of agitation by employee organisations.
Workers had been pressing the government over pending Dearness Allowance instalments and other service-related demands.
DA Increase Follows Employee-Government Standoff
The dispute had intensified after employees observed mass casual leave on August 27 as part of their protest.
The agitation was linked to demands including the release of pending DA and arrears.
The Punjab government had earlier faced a direction from the Punjab and Haryana High Court concerning pending DA dues. The government subsequently challenged the order in the Supreme Court.
The latest decision provides for the release of the additional 8 per cent DA, while several other demands raised by employees and pensioners remain under discussion.
Other Employee Demands Remain Pending
During the meeting, representatives also raised issues such as restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, changes to the pay structure for certain employees recruited after July 2020 and payment of full salary during the probation period.
The government said these and other long-pending matters would be discussed further.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also announced that meetings with employee representatives would continue to address their concerns.
For pensioners, the DA increase will raise the applicable Dearness Relief in line with the announced enhancement.
The financial impact for an individual employee or pensioner will depend on their basic pay or pension.

The Punjab 8% DA hike is separate from a final settlement of all pending arrears and other service-related demands.
The government has agreed to release the new DA while discussions on other issues continue.
