In August 2026, HDFC Bank and Federal Bank revised their FD interest rates for deposits below ₹3 crore.

Both banks offer higher rates to senior citizens compared with regular customers.

Federal Bank currently offers the highest rate of 7.20% to senior citizens, while HDFC Bank offers a maximum of 7.10%.

HDFC Bank FD Rates: Senior Citizens Get Up to 7.10%

HDFC Bank revised the FD interest rate for senior citizens by 10 basis points on one specific tenure.

The new rates came into effect on August 19, 2026.

Senior citizens can earn interest ranging from 3.25% to 7.10%, depending on the FD tenure.

The highest rate of 7.10% is available on deposits with a tenure of 3 years 1 day to less than 4 years 7 months.

For regular customers, HDFC Bank has not changed its rates.

They can earn between 2.75% and 6.50%, with the highest rate available on the same 3 years 1 day to less than 4 years 7 months tenure.

Federal Bank FD Rates: Up to 7.20% for Senior Citizens

Federal Bank revised its FD rates from August 17, 2026.

For deposits below ₹3 crore, senior citizens can earn between 3.50% and 7.20%, depending on the tenure.

The bank is offering its highest rate of 7.20% on a 48-month FD.

Regular customers can earn up to 6.70%, also on a 48-month deposit.

Which Bank Offers the Higher FD Rate?

On the maximum interest rate, Federal Bank is currently ahead of HDFC Bank.

For senior citizens, Federal Bank offers up to 7.20%, compared with HDFC Bank’s maximum of 7.10%.

Federal Bank also offers a higher maximum rate to regular customers. Its top rate is 6.70%, while HDFC Bank offers up to 6.50%.

However, the highest rates are available for different tenures. HDFC Bank’s 7.10% rate applies to deposits of 3 years 1 day to less than 4 years 7 months, while Federal Bank’s 7.20% rate is available for a 48-month FD.

Before booking an FD, depositors should check the applicable tenure, interest payout option, premature withdrawal rules and other terms. The final return can depend on the deposit amount and selected tenure.
